History of Roy, Utah

It wasn't until 1873 when the Roy area was settled. The first post office for the City of Roy was established on May 24, 1894. Before the city adopted the name, "Roy" (after the death of a local teacher's child) the area was known as: Central City, Sandridge, the Basin, or Lakeview. Finally in 1937, the City of Roy was incorporated. Development in the Roy area rapidly increased during World War II. Roy received a charter to establish the first branch bank in Utah, USA on September of 1953. This branch bank lead to the establishment of other banks throughout the state of Utah. Today, Roy is home to various types of thriving businesses and services. The city has been declared as "Weber County's Fastest Growing City."

As of 2000, it was determined that the City of Roy held about 32,885 people, 10,689 households, and 8,604 families. The racial demographics of the city was 90.75% White, 1.16% African-American, 0.59% Native American, 1.79% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 3.64% from other races, and 1.96% from two or more races. 7.68% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median income for a household then was $49,611, and the median income for a family was $53,763. The city's per capita income then was $17,794.
